Samir and his mother go to a small family restaurant. It is her birthday. “Good evening,” the waiter says. “I’d like a table for two, please,” Samir says.
The waiter shows them a table near the window. “What would you like to drink?” he asks. Samir’s mother would like some water. Samir would like an orange juice.
The waiter brings the menu. “I’d like the fish,” Mother says. “I would like the chicken soup,” Samir says. The waiter writes it down and goes to the kitchen.
Soon the waiter comes back with a big plate of rice for Samir. “Excuse me,” Samir says. “I’d like the soup, not the rice.” “Sorry!” the waiter says, and he takes the plate away.
The soup comes, and then a small cake with a candle. “Happy birthday!” the waiter says. Mother smiles. “Would you like a piece?” she asks Samir. “Yes, I’d like a big one!”
