The Club List

Marta is a volunteer at the book club. It is Saturday morning, and a long list is on the table. Two women come to the door.

“Hello! Are you Ana?” Marta asks the first woman. “No, I’m not,” she says. “I’m Anna, with two n’s.” Marta looks at the list. “Is this your name?” “Yes, it is!”

A tall man comes next. “Are you new here?” Marta asks. “Yes, I am. My name is Leo.” “Is he your brother?” she asks, and she looks at a boy behind him. “No, he is my friend, Dan,” Leo says.

Marta is confused. “Is Ana here?” she asks the room. A woman with red hair smiles. “Yes, I am Ana!” Now Marta sees two friends: Ana and Anna.

“Are you friends?” Marta asks. “Yes, we are,” they say, and everybody laughs. Marta writes both names on the list. “Is the club ready?” “Yes, it is!”
