Derek has an online English class at six. He opens the app and sees his teacher and four students on the screen.
The teacher asks, “Derek, what is your favourite food?” Derek speaks, but nobody hears him. The microphone is off. The students look at him and wait.
Derek writes in the chat: “The microphone is off. It is not working.” The teacher reads the message. “That’s okay, Derek,” she says. “Click the microphone button.”
Derek clicks the button. “Can you hear me now?” he asks. “Yes!” the class says. “We can hear you!”
“I like pizza,” Derek says. He is nervous, but his voice is strong. The teacher smiles and says, “Well done!” Then his cat jumps on the desk, and everybody laughs.
