The Sports Club

Jamie has recently moved to a new area and would like to meet people. When he notices a poster for a local sports club, he decides to try its Wednesday badminton session. He has never played before, so he feels a little nervous.

At the reception desk, a member of staff explains where to go. In the hall, several people are warming up. Priya, one of the players, notices Jamie standing alone and asks whether he would like to join her group.

During the first game, Jamie misses the shuttlecock again and again. Priya shows him how to hold the racket and explains that he does not need to hit so hard. With a little practice, he manages to return the shuttlecock over the net.

After half an hour, everyone takes a short break. Jamie drinks some water and chats with Priya about the neighbourhood. She tells him that beginners are welcome every Wednesday at six o'clock.

On his way home, Jamie puts the next session in his calendar. He is still not good at badminton, but he enjoyed himself more than he expected. Joining the club feels like a good first step towards making new friends.
