Lena was nearly asleep when her phone lit up just after . The message came from her aunt, who never sent messages so late. It said, “Look under the , but don’t wake your mother.”

At first, Lena felt nervous. The flat was quiet, and the living room looked different in the dark. She turned on a small lamp and walked to the old clock on the wall.

Under the clock, she found a white with her name on it. Inside was a black-and-white of her mother at the age of ten, standing beside the same clock.

On the back of the photo, her aunt had written, “This is the first for tomorrow.” Lena remembered that her mother’s birthday was the next morning, and the strange message began to .
