Which Job?

Sara had two job offers on the same morning. The first was in a small bookshop ten minutes from her flat. The second was in an office on the other side of the city.

At first, the office seemed better because it paid twelve euros an hour, while the bookshop paid ten. Sara made a table with the salary, the journey and the working hours.

The numbers showed something different. The journey to the office took an hour each way, so the journey was two hours a day in total. The bookshop finished at five. That meant time to study in the evening.

She also remembered what she wanted this year: to finish an English course and have a calmer life. She did not want to earn more money and feel tired every day.

Sara phoned the bookshop and accepted the offer. Then she wrote a polite email to the office, thanking them and saying, “I am taking another job”.
