Mrs Stone gives the dog a towel and some water. The dog drinks and sits near the heater. “We need to find its owner,” she says.
Ben takes a pen and paper. He draws the dog with a blue collar. Mrs Stone writes: “FOUND: small brown dog. Call Ben.”
They make two posters. One goes on the bakery door. The other goes at the bus stop. The baker, Mr Lopez, smiles. “I can look at the poster every day,” he says.
Back at the house, the dog sleeps on a soft blanket. Ben looks at its small black nose. “I can call you Pepper for now,” he says. The dog opens one eye.
