Learning Something New

Andrés is thirty-five, and today he has his first guitar class. He carries an old guitar in a black case.

In the classroom, three students are younger than him. Andrés feels nervous. He says, “This is my first class.”

The teacher smiles and shows one easy chord. Andrés puts his fingers on the guitar. It sounds bad.

The teacher says, “That is normal on the first day.” Andrés tries again. The sound is a little better.

After class, Andrés goes home and practises the chord again.
