Andrés signed up for a class because he had wanted to play music for years. On the first day, he carried an old guitar in a black case and felt a little nervous on the bus.

When he entered the , he saw three younger students already tuning their guitars. Andrés almost turned around, but the teacher greeted him by name and gave him a chair.

The first sounded terrible. His hurt, and the strings made a hard buzzing noise. Andrés laughed quietly and said, “I think the guitar hates me.”

The teacher shook her head. “No, your fingers are just learning where to go.” She showed him how to move one finger at a time, and the second try sounded clearer.

At home, Andrés practised for ten minutes, not an hour. The next evening, he picked up the guitar and tried the chord again.
