Today is Tom’s birthday. Julia has a cake, balloons and a small card. The family is in the kitchen.

Julia looks at the cake. Oh no! There is no candle with the number eight. Tom is eight today.

Tom is at school. Julia looks in a drawer and finds two small candles: a six and a two.

“Six plus two is eight,” says Julia’s brother, Ben. He laughs and puts the candles on the cake.

Tom comes home and sees the cake. “Six and two!” he says. “That’s eight!” Everybody laughs, and Tom blows out the candles.
