A Room for Friday

It is Friday afternoon. Marta is at a small guesthouse. She has a ticket for a concert tonight. She wants a room for one night. She shows the man at the desk her booking email.

“Your booking is for Saturday,” the man says. Marta looks at her email. He is right! “Do you have a room for tonight?” she asks. “No, but my sister has a guesthouse near the station. I can call her.”

His sister has one room. It costs ten pounds more, but breakfast is included. The concert is fifteen minutes away on foot. Marta says yes. The man writes the address on a card.

“And my room for Saturday?” Marta asks. “I can cancel that. You do not need to pay,” he says. Marta thanks him. She reads the new email: Friday, one night, with breakfast.

At the other guesthouse, Marta puts the card next to her ticket. There is one hour before the concert. She sends her brother a message: “Next time, please check my dates.” He answers, “Yes, and you can check mine!”
