The day before the school trip, Leo’s teacher, Mrs Park, spoke to the class about the arrangements. “You must be at school by eight o’clock,” she said. “The bus leaves at half past eight, so nobody can be late.”

“Do we have to wear uniform?” Sam asked. “No, you don’t have to,” said Mrs Park, “but you should wear comfortable shoes, because we’ll be walking a lot.” Leo wrote two words in his notebook: shoes, eight o’clock.

At home, his mum helped him get ready. “You’ll need a packed lunch,” she said. “Should I take water as well?” Leo asked. “Of course.” His little sister Amy laughed. “I don’t have to go to a museum. I get to stay at nursery!”

The next morning Leo overslept and had to run to the bus stop. Sam waved at him from the window. Once he was on board, Leo asked Mrs Park whether they had to sit with a partner. “Everybody does,” she said. “You must stay in your seat, and you mustn’t stand up while the bus is moving.”

At the museum, the guide gave them one last instruction: “You have to leave your bags here, but you don’t have to be silent!” The children laughed, and Leo smiled. It was going to be a great day.
