Evan went to the school library to find information for a project about animals. He chose a book on the top shelf, sat at a table and opened it to the first chapter. A small note fell between the pages.
The message read, “Blue shelf. Four o'clock. Bring the book.” There was no name, and Evan's first thought was that another student had left it there by mistake. He was about to put it back when he noticed a tiny in the corner: READING CLUB.
At ten minutes to four, Evan was still wondering whether to follow the instruction. He knew the library well, but he had never joined a school club before. He decided to take a look. If it was a joke, he could simply return the book and leave.
Three students were standing beside the blue shelf. Each was holding a different book and a similar note. The librarian explained that she had hidden invitations in several popular books to find students who enjoyed discovering new stories. The group met once a week to share .
Evan stayed for the first meeting. One student recommended a mystery novel, while another preferred books about space. Evan talked about the animal book he had borrowed. By the time the library closed, he had written down two titles he wanted to try. The secret note had brought him somewhere he would never have visited on his own.
