Lena has a sore throat and a small cough. It started on Monday. She can still eat and drink, but talking for a long time hurts. Because she does not feel better, she decides to make an appointment at her local health centre.
She phones the reception desk and explains that she would like to see a doctor. The receptionist offers her an appointment at ten the following morning. Lena checks her calendar, confirms the time and writes down the address.
At the appointment, the doctor asks, “When did the problems start? Can you drink normally?” Lena explains that she feels tired. She does not have any other serious problems. The doctor looks at her throat and listens carefully.
The doctor gives some advice. “You should rest and you should drink plenty of water,” she says. “You shouldn’t talk too much, and you should come back if you feel worse.” Lena repeats the key instructions to make sure she understands them.
Back at home, Lena makes herself a warm drink and cancels an evening plan so she can rest. She sends her sister a message: “The doctor says I should stay in bed. You should visit me on Sunday!” It is a relief to know what to do next.
