On Sunday afternoon, Olivia takes her grandfather to the city museum. There is a new exhibition about how the streets have changed over the last hundred years. Olivia expects to see old buses and shops, but she is surprised by how interesting the photographs are.
In one picture, she notices a little red bus and a bakery with a blue door. “I think the bakery has closed,” she says, “but the blue door has stayed the same.” She points it out to her grandfather because the shop looks familiar. He studies the photograph for a moment and smiles.
“I bought bread there with my father every morning,” he tells her. He remembers the warm smell when the baker opened the door. Olivia has never heard this story before. She knows her grandfather grew up in that part of town.
A museum guide offers to show them a larger copy of the photograph. The street name becomes easier to read, and Olivia realises that it is the road where her grandfather lived as a child. “Many shops have closed,” the guide says, “but the street has not changed its name.”
At the end, Olivia takes a photo of the information board. At home, her grandfather has brought out an old family album. Together, they compare his photographs with the pictures from the exhibition.
